Books I Read: August 2025

Original Daughter – Jemima Wei

—-Notes: I was really looking forward to this one; the author came up in my IG feed. I’m not sure how I feel about this one. The story was well-written. However, I think I was expecting a lighter story, and it was actually ended up being a rather heavy read that became very dark at times.

Kitchens of the Great Midwest – Ryan Stradal

—-Notes: Picked this one up after reading The Lager Queen of Minnesota. It’s another well-written and original story, authentic and depth-plumbing.

The Improbability of Love – Hannah Rothschild

—-Notes: Loved it! A well-written and original story. I’m really into the “found coveted rare art from the past” theme and the world it walks into. Plus, there was a downtrodden heroine who allows her creativity and ability to create and cook take her to a better place.

The Perfume Collector – Kathleen Tessaro

—-Notes: A solid historical fiction novel with multiple timelines and stories that ultimately come together for a wonderful and original story.

Ship of Brides – Jojo Moyes

—-Notes: I’ll say it again – I love the stories of Jojo Moyes. This led me down a bit of a rabbit hole researching the women and events in the story.

Crazy Rich Asians – Kevin Kwan

—-Notes: Have literally read this book ten times. A comfort read. For me, nobody writes quite like Kevin Kwan.
