Advent Day 5: A Literal Co-Laboring

Reading: Luke 1:25-29

God’s interactions and blessings seem to cause disruptions in everyday life. A needy infant to be born to an old couple likely living a slow and peaceful life (full of uninterrupted sleep!). A mysterious pregnancy to one who is engaged, causing friction between her and her betrothed. Hardly what Mary expected prior to her wedding day, I’m sure.

Yet when each of these two women receive the blessing God has for them: they are so joyful. Joyful, humble, trusting, receptive. Ready to serve. God of course, knew these things about them and that’s probably at least part of the reason He chose them to literally carry, inside their bodies, these individuals with great destinies.

God is literally co-laboring with Elizabeth and Mary to bring a prophet and a savior to a world who desperately needs both.

How awesome and amazing. Abba Father: as you allow me to co-labor with You, may I be joyful, humble, trusting, and receptive to the blessings you allow me to nurture, birth, and carry.

Amen.
